Goals!

Posted by: | February 3, 2012 | 1 Comment |

Hello!

Now that I am finishing this course I feel a little confused because I don´t have a specific plan. I know that I want to become a teacher and maybe this is going to be difficult, but I am sure I can make it.  I have learnt a lot of things from Ellen (I don´t feel comfortable calling her in this way). She really knows how to deal with tough circumstances and she gave us many tools to do the same.

When I was in primary school I had many teachers who told me to be sat and quieted while I was working and I didn´t like it. So I taught “If I were a teacher, I would work differently with my students”.  Unfortunately, the approaches used by teachers haven´t changed. I don´t expect my students to be sat and working alone, neither I want them to be disrespectful, so I have to find a balance. Maybe I am a dreamer.

Many of us have never taught and this will become a challenge. Perhaps, we are afraid of teaching because we don´t have experience, but that comes with the time. We are not perfect; nevertheless, we have to try to give our students the best.

Well, this is one of my professional goals. I will continue learning and getting ready, in order to not fail. I will let you know if I achieve it.

Back talking

I must say that I have always been a little quiet, and I don´t have a good story to tell you about backtalking… at school. But I have plenty  at home with my  little brother. When I started to read the article I said “oh my god, where´s the camera that has been filming our conversations?  rather our fights. But I don´t have to tell you how it develops, it is easy I say
“yes, do it, don´t do it” and he says “Not, But, it´s not my fault” .One important thing that mentions the article is that we must remain relaxed, calm… I wish I had read this before, because it is the first thing I don´t do.

But, I believe that the most important thing in this article is that we shouldn´t play along with students.  They believe are never guilty of anything or they have always an excuse for everything.

I loved this phrase:

It takes one fool to backtalk, but It takes two fools to make a conversation out of it.

Of course that the best solution to avoid back talking is the silent´s teacher. Because if teachers take part in this they are going get angry or loose control. This is one of the best things I’ve learned in this course and I will implement it in my daily life.

This is a videoa about back talking teen.

Bloom´s Revised Taxonomy

Activity:Listening

Listen to a recording talking about feelings about taking exams.

Remembering: Name all the adjectives they have mentioned.

Understanding: Try to classify them into 2 groups. Which ones of them express good feelings or bad feelings? if there are not good ones, write the ones you feel.

Applying: Make some sentences about how you feel about tests.

Analyzing: Compare your sentences with your partners.

Evaluating: Talk to your partner about how you would feel if you were taking a quiz right now. But, nobody told you about it.

Creating: In 3 groups they will have to perform the situation described above. Would they copy?

Reflection: This is a great way of planning a class. You know your where are you going to, what you have to do. You can put time limit on each activity and have your class organized. In this way you have kid´s attention and they are learning in a funny way. I would definately use it in my classes.

Literature Circles

Posted by: | October 14, 2011 | 1 Comment |

Literature circles are discussion groups where we can debate items of great interest. To have a better perspective about a topic, expand our minds, etc. Giving opinions, participating, talking is the best way to make a refreshing literature circle.  Being in silent is not what we should be doing, discuss the problem, interfere, and suggest a solution.

I have done many in my Italian class and I must say that they are enriching, we all have different opinions about articles, books, magazines we have read. We don´t always have to be in agreement with others. The important thing here is to contribute. Sometimes I have change opinion during a literature circle and it´s ok. There are people who make very good comments, which contribute a lot.

 Rubric

A rubric is a great idea to assess ourselves, our performance, our success, and our failures. I believe  it is like a kind of way to push ourselves to do the things right. As Ellen said,  it’s hard to stand aside and give a objective critic. Although, as teachers, we have to do it. We need to find ways in which our feelings don´t interfere. We need to think clearly. That is our job.

Wordle

This is my wordle! I really wanted to write all the words of the unit 2, but I couldn´t.

The objetive of this wordle is to create a game which helps me to understand these words. I have to say that I´m not good at creating games. Maybe I should start with a brainstorming, don´t you think?

Hello world!

Hello classmates!

Here we are… starting a new phase of our life and hoping that everything we do turns out to be ok.

Firstly, I was a little afraid of beginning this course, but now that I have seen old friends choosing the same way I did I am excited and I can not wait to start.

This might no be easy, but I am sure we will do our best. On the other hand, TKT is not supposed to be easy, isn’t it? If we want to be good teachers we should do an effort to be the best ones.

Finally, I offer you my help. You have to know you can count on me for anything. See you in class!
